What really matters? Rethinking how we value Australia’s children

What really matters? Rethinking how we value Australia’s children
Thursday 26 July, 1030 – 1130

Abstract
If we are to imagine a brighter future for Australia’s children, one in which all children can flourish and maximise their potential, we must begin by asking more challenging questions about our shared responsibility for their safety and wellbeing, and the role that we each play in creating a society that allows children and future generations of children, to flourish and maximise their potential.

It is timely to consider how we can do better for children, and reflect on how we, as a society, value children, and the priority we give their needs and rights.

In this symposium, Linda Savage, convenor of the Valuing Children Initiative; Professor Daryl Higgins, Director of the Institute of Child Protection Studies at the Australian Catholic University; and Dr Brian Babington, Chief Executive Officer of Families Australia, will explore the role our attitudes to children play in their safety and wellbeing, the importance of a positive goal-orientated focus, and the need for a shared vision for children and future generations.
