Abstract
This presentation outlines SSI’s experience in developing innovative services for migrant and refugee children and families across a number of different program areas. This includes services that address the complex needs of asylum seeker and refugee families during settlement and which tackle issues such as trauma, developmental delays in young children, mental health problems, grief and loss, domestic violence, family breakdowns and child protection issues. We will also be speaking about the needs of children and young people, birth families and foster carers supported by our Multicultural Foster Care Program, and discuss our experience in establishing and delivering a culturally framed out-of-home care service. We will provide participants with an insight into how SSI utilises a range of innovative and partnership based approaches to working with migrant and refugee families.
