Working Together: Government, Philanthropy and Research: The Early Years Initiative in Western Australia
Friday 27 July, 1010 – 1030
The Minderoo Foundation, the Forrest family’s philanthropic organisation, is investing $24.6m in the Early Years Initiative, matching the State Government’s funding to create a 10 year $49millon dollar initiative. Secondly, it committed to engage businesses in providing training and jobs for parents/carers of when these are needed in pilot communities. Minderoo agreed to fund innovative ideas and strategies that are not within the capability of Government agencies to resource and support. Why did it make such a big commitment?
The answer is in the mission of the Minderoo Foundation: to make a difference. It has been a long term investor in Challis Primary School and knew the difference that high quality services, delivered by known and trusted professionals in the local community could make. The challenge was to do it in every community. And to do this, you need to engage with Government. The investment provides the leverage to address the complex policy, social and economic barriers that are inhibiting children’s development.
In this presentation Hayley will provide an overview of the path that led to Minderoo making this unprecedented investment and how it will provide the leverage Minderoo needs to address the complex policy, social and economic barriers that are inhibiting children’s development.
